Trauma Recovery Network

About Us

Trauma Recovery Network (TRN) is a regional network offering cross sector advocacy and organisational development support to victims and survivors groups and those working with the impact of trauma through a partnership and community development method of working.

Established in 2004, TRN Board has a founding membership of diverse organisations ranging from local community based projects to regional service providers and from both a community and public sector background.

Through the development of a cross sector regional network comprising victims and survivors groups and those working with the impact of trauma TRN aims to build collaborative working relationships around the common area of trauma recovery. Networking on this scale is not currently being facilitated by any other independent organisation in Northern Ireland using a community development approach. We offer the opportunity for a relatively neutral and independent dialogue forum affording contact between groups on a region wide basis and discussion of a more flexible nature. This work as it develops will itself address the isolation of victims and victims groups and nurture and encourage participation within the sector and with key players outside the sector.

The common focus of recovery from trauma, however that may be defined, has already been recognised as having potential to assist integration and reconciliation of victims at our 3 consultation meetings throughout 2005 with groups across Northern Ireland attended by representatives of 45 groups.

Aims:

  1. To build an independent forum that is safe enough to hold challenging dialogue.
  2. To influence policy and funding in ways that are responsive to, and supportive of, the needs of the Trauma Recovery sector.
  3. To encourage creative and ethical practice to aid trauma recovery and prevention, and break the cycle of transgenerational trauma.
  4. To influence the Trauma Recovery agenda regionally, nationally and internationally.
